                                   Bag making workshop

A girl can never have too many shoes, fabric or bags. I love accessorizing and having the perfect bag to compliment my outfit is a must. Sometimes though, it is hard to find the right one... So, being able to whip one up has been a life saver. Not to mention cost-effective!

After attending this one-on-one workshop, you will have the necessary skills to make professional looking bags, handbags and purses. In fact, you might even consider turning your newly-acquired skills into a business. Wouldn't it be nice to have fun and make money on the side?

Bags say a lot about the woman who uses them. What will your bags say about you?

Level: This one-on-one class is perfect for the confident beginner. If you know how to sew a straight stitch on the sewing machine you are good to go (need a little refresher? Consider taking our Sewing 1.0 lesson). We will provide lots of guidance and hand-holding, every step of the way.

Objective: this workshop is suitable for anyone looking to gain professional skills and an invaluable insight into both traditional and contemporary bag making techniques. You will complete 4 different bags over the course of 6 weeks.

Skills developed: in this session, we will focus on:
  • identifying different bag shapes and styles
  • construction methods
  • assembling linings, backings and gussets
  • working with leather/leather like materials
  • different handle options
  • interfacing: demystified
  • how fabrics of different weights can work well together
  • mixing and matching fabrics and prints
  • perfecting your topstitching and sewing skills
  • how to install a zipper
  • how to add a flush/recessed zipper pocket, internal pockets and divisions
  • hardware: magnetic snaps, d-rings, swivel snap clips
  • the makings of a unique, professional looking bag (finishing touches - zipper tabs, pulls, etc)

Duration: We will meet for 2 hrs. at a time, for a total of 6 lessons (12 hrs. total). Because this is a one-on-one workshop, we will meet at a time that is convenient for you. Contact us today to register!

Fee: $650 (12+ hrs. of hands-on, one-on-one instruction)

Materials: the material list will be provided on the first day.

Sewing machine and tools: if you have them, bring them with you. If not, use ours at no additional cost.
